Macugnaga and Monte Rosa

Situated at the foot of the spectacular east wall of Monte Rosa (m. 4.634), Macugnaga is known not only for the extraordinary panorama offered there but also for its typical wooden Walser houses and excellent winter sports facilities.

The Toce Waterfall (Cascata del Toce) and Val Formazza

Symbol of the Formazza Valley with a drop of 145 metres, it is considered one of the most beautiful and majestic waterfalls in Europe and is located in a unique and unforgettable setting between majestic peaks and a splendid valley covered by extensive conifer woods, fields, summer pastures and small alpine lakes. Also spectacular are the steep gorges of the Orridi di Uriezzo near Baceno.

The Antrona Valley

The dominating element here is water: mountain streams, torrents and waterfalls that have shaped the valley and feed its crystalline lakes; framed by verdant mountains, it is ideal for hiking and relaxing. Especially fascinating is the recent phenomenon of illuminating the village of Viganella in winter by means of a giant mirror, installed on the opposite mountainside, that reflects the rays of the sun.

The Strona Valley

It is the valley of nature and multiform landscapes of colours. Thanks to the abundance of forests, the artisan craft of woodworking has developed into an art here and the area is renown for it production of small scale furnishings, household implements, flutes, toys and the famous “Pinocchios”. .   more
